History of Fisherman Direct
Fisherman Direct was founded in 2003 by David Skea, then 17 years of age. David's father, Ken Skea had been diving for scallops since the early 1980's and when the father and son team joined forces in 2002, David set out with the aim of shortening the supply chain and sending their scallops direct to the end customer.
"We started diving for Razorfish, as well as Scallops, just after the company was set up and these two species are the companies two main products. We supply shellfish to various destinations both in the UK and Europe.
We are currently building new, purpose built, premises in Alness to allow us to expand the business and diversify into other species - Langoustine, Lobster, Crab etc (while still maintaining the high quality products we supply at present).
We are committed to preserving the environment and marine habitat and that is why we only harvest shellfish using environmentally friendly catching methods which have no impact on other marine life. Hand picking the shellfish using divers means that other species of marine life can be swum by untouched and scallops which are too small to be harvested can be left to grow on. This creates a much more sustainable fishery than other scallop harvesting methods."
